Fun local activities.

Our location in the central South Island, only an hour from Christchurch makes High Peak a great base for some fun local activities without large crowds of tourists. We offer a dedicated guide and vehicle to our non-hunters to take them to and from these activities.

• Horse riding through some stunning South Island high country
• Hot pools, treatments and massage at the Opuke Thermal Pools

We have some outstanding full-day adventures that will give you stories to match the hunters around the dinner table! Day adventures involve a dedicated guide and touring vehicle straight from the lodge.

Local wine & food.

New Zealand, and Canterbury in particular has some of the best produce in the world. Enjoying this local produce is a big part of what we do here at High Peak and we enjoy showing our non-hunters the best of it.

Join us for a country drive to our local wine region where you’ll sample some excellent wines along with an exceptional lunch. You’ll even have the option to buy wine and send it home if you like it!

Indulge in a little luxury.

The hunters may be hunting, but you’re on vacation. Why not treat yourself to some pampering at our local spa?

Located in Methven just 25 minutes from High Peak, Opuke Spa has amazing solar-heated hot pools and a day spa offering excellent massages and treatments. We usually arrange a morning or afternoon session, often combined with a local scenic walk and coffee at a local cafe.

Activities right here on the station.

Apart from joining the hunt, you also have the option to partake in some station activities, such as lake fishing, farm tours and walks.

One thing you should consider is our Beekeeping Experience. Tom, our resident apiarist, will take you on a tour of High Peak’s best wild honey producing areas, where you will get to put on a bee suit and open up a hive full of beautiful beech or manuka honey. See the bees in action, taste the honey straight off the comb, and understand more about what makes honey and bees so remarkable.

We’ll even throw in a few jars of premium wild High Peak honey for you to enjoy on your travels or take home as gifts.

For many of our guests, hunting is an experience to be shared. Non-hunters should know they are always welcome to join the hunt and if they wish, become hunters themselves!

Many people have arrived at High Peak as ‘non-hunters’ and left with a beautiful stag and some incredible memories of an experience shared with their most special people.
